I replaced my 18-55 with this 17-50 f/2.8 and it was an excellent move. The Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD IF is a great alternative to the 17-55 f/2.8 by Canon because it is lighter, smaller, and just as sharp. The Canon does have a better autofocus, but the AF on this Tamron is quite fast for internal focus and pretty accurate. I would definitely reccommend this lens to those who are looking for a fast wide-angle for a crop body camera, and at around $350 (used) it is very, very cheap compared to the brand names.
